Members of the media are “a self-created and self-referring class, a new kind of managerial elite” that “tend to speak of the world not necessarily as it is but as they want people out there to believe it is.”


That was written by the late Joan Didion in 1988, in an essay titled: “Insider Baseball”.

Well, I just rephrased the original title.
